How Many Parents Should Be At a Den Meeting?

Postby drumorgan » Sun Jun 05, 2011 8:15 pm

If I have about 8 Cubs in my new Den, how many parents should I expect to come to the Den meetings? Should I want them all there ideally? Or, as few as possible? i know I need more volunteers than just me, but is a Den meeting the type of thing that you want the parents there or not? This is a Tiger Den specifically, if that makes a difference.

Here's a resource for Tiger leaders. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/510-233.pdf

Adult partners are required to attend Tiger meetings with their boys. Try to minimize the number of siblings in tow. This can be hard if you have single parents in your den.

Take the required training for your position. That will answer many of your questions and leave you feeling more confident. And yes, you do need more volunteers than just yourself.

Another good source of information is the Parent information in the beginning of your Tiger's Handbook. HINT - Read the part on Shared Leadership!

It would be helpful to you to get a copy of the Tiger Handbook just for your use as leader.

Also, although it was not explained to you, when you attend the Pack's recruiting night (Roundup) this Fall in your role as Tiger den leader, make sure you let every Tiger family that wants to register know that one of them is required to sign up as their son's Tiger Partner. There is a box on the youth application to check that signifies that the parent whose information is on the application will be the Scout's Tiger Partner.

Finding out after the fact can be upsetting to some parents. It is better that they know up front.

The Tiger Partner and their Tiger Cub Scout form a Tiger Team that will do everything together. Together - they will attend den meetings, say the pledge, sing songs, play games, work on achievements, go on outings, and lots more. Your den of 8 Tiger Cubs is actually a den of 8 Teams, with 16 people in total.

The tiger adult partner is a great resource. Make sure to actively engage and delegate to your parents. Hopefully when you move up to the wolves you will get a handful of volunteers that want to register to become assistants. We have a great retention rate recruiting from our tiger partner pool. :)
