Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award

Postby kawzman » Sun Jul 28, 2013 10:41 pm

All my Bear Scouts earned the Cub Scouting's Leave No Trace Award as Wolves. I'm planning my Bear Den calendar year and I'm working in the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award into our schedule. A requirement of the award is to complete elective 25h, which is to earn the Cub Scouting's Leave No Trace Award. Do they automatically get credit for this requirement and elective or do I make them complete all the requirements for Cub Scouting's Leave No Trace Award in order to get credit for Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award? Just want to do the right thing here.

Cheers,

Very interesting question! Usually if they want you to earn an award again, they will say something to the effect of "As a X scout, earn the Y award", where X is the level (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos) and Y is the award. I don't see where you can re-earn the Leave No Trace award either.

I would say they don't need to earn it again, but I admit it is ambiguous.

There is a slightly different version: Boys in a Tiger Cub den complete the activities for Achievement 5, Let's Go Outdoors; boys in a Wolf den complete Requirement 7, Your Living World; boys in a Bear den complete Requirement 12, Family Outdoor Adventures; boys in a Webelos den earn the Outdoorsman activity badge.

Basically, do the new requirement for your activity level, practice the guidelines on three new separate outings, do a new service project (and make a new poster). Presto, same award earned again. The boys don't need to know that they earned the award again (as some might get upset that they're earning the "same" award again), since service projects and outings are things you should be doing anyway and the activity-level-specific requirements are also things that should be done anyway. :)
