Merit Badge Requirement Tracker

Postby sowega-tiger » Thu Jun 22, 2006 8:44 pm

:?: Hey All, Does anyone know of a database or spreadsheet that tracks the requirements for merit badges? I have seen a few that track rank requirements and merit badges earned, but I am looking to track the completion of each individual requirement of the merit badge.

if you are doing each merit badge I personally wouldnt want to track everyones req. for each badge. but as a counsler for a few badges I have my wife type up a spreadsheet that list the boys name and a spot for each req and subrequirment for the badges I am teaching. she does not do this for each and every merit badge. she will do this for me because I am such a disorganized person so a one page deal helps me greatly. now if I am not mistaken maybe troopmaster does that but I am not sure.

The troopmaster program tracks them and also have a comment section for each.

As a scout leader, or even an advancement chair, do I want to track requirements for merit badges. Some responsibility has to be left to the scout to stay organized and remember what he has completed. Plus, it is already hard enough now to keep up to date with finished badges. Add 15 to 30 or more requirements for each badge and you have Thousands of items to track. Gotta be crazy to do that.

i agree with Jazer. Tracking the completion of the requirements should be left to the Scout, if you are the counselor. If you are the Scout earning the requirement, that is what the applicant portion of the blue card is for.

Troopmaster software does track individual requirements for partial Merit Badges, as well as when they were started, when the last progress was recorded, and any comments. I know there are other software packages that also track individual requirements, but I don't remember which ones.

I only track what I do with the boys, or what is reported to me. When I run advancement reports from Troopmaster, there is a section listing partial MBs and what needs to be completed. Many boys and/or parents appreciate this information. I always tell them, "This is what I have record of. More may have been done, but has not been reported to me."
