Merit Badge Worksheets

Postby JVCXXVI » Tue Apr 17, 2007 9:35 am

Does any one know where I can download the Merit Badge Worksheet all at once time. I have a couple of scoouts that have computers at home but no internet. I was hoping to download all the worksheets so the scouts could view them at home. I've came across a couple websites that I can down the worksheets one at a time but...I'm hoping to do it all in one shot.

I have not seen anything like that. It might be easier and actually cheaper to buy them each a copy of the most recent requirements book. Your troop ought to have that available for the boys anyway. Do you have a troop library of any sort?

They would probably have to be combined, which would be a doable undertaking for someone. The problem arises when requirements change, necessitating an update to certain worksheets. Then the combined file has to get updated, and how do you know you're getting the most current. Plus, if you diwnload all of them now and a scout doesn't start on a rarely-earned MB for two years, you'll have worthless worksheets on your HD.

I recommend getting a list of probables, including all the Eagle-Required, and downloading just those.

Or get a scout who has internet access to be the "worksheet librarian" and provide the files on an as-needed basis to those who request them.

Worksheet are not a BSA thing. BSA does not write them, distribute them, or recommend them. As I see it, they are basically a condensation of the merit badge book put together by a counselor somewhere in the old days and copied and revised by other counselors. Boys (and counselors) look at them as a shortcut; a way to get through the material without having to look at the book.

Each troop needs a MB Pamphlet Library . At least one of each required maybe two plus copies of the most popular the boys have taken over the years. ALso if boys buy their own they can donate them to the library after they finish the MB.

Also, I'd recommend ALWAYS keep an old copy of the MB phamplet (even though it's been replaced with an updated one) around for about 7.5 years... Remember, until he turns 18, the Scout has the option to complete the requirements under the old or new requirements.

The above is true but keep in mind that this only applies if the Scout began the merit badge while the old requirements were still current. Once a new addition of Boy Scout Requirements is published (each year in January), Scouts may not "begin" a merit badge using the previous requirements if new requirements have been created.

Also, it is generally understood that when the BSA releases requirements mid-year that the Scout may choose either the newly created requirements or the existing ones in the current addition of Boy Scout Requirements.
