Agree, I tell all my scouts to keep the blue cards/merit badge pocketcards, and rank advancement pocketcards together in a binder using the sports card collector pages.

This way when I take the Eagle Application downtown and they go to their Board of Review for Eagle if there is a question, we can pull the card out and fix it on the spot.

Remember the Eagle Application goes to the Service Center to have all the advancement varified. We have a secretary that does that. Each MB listed is confirmed with what is in the data base at council. If here is problem the Secretary contacts the SM and they compare notes. The only problem I ever had was with a boy that came from an out of state troop and when the info was first sent to the service center someone missed one MB but with troop and the boys cards that was quickly taken care of.
I have seen SM refuse scouts request to take a certain MB and they are plain wrong.

Our Council does it the same way. When you take an Eagle application to our service center, the front desk personnel will take the time to review every date and entry immediately while you wait). If there is a discrepency, it can be resolved if you bring the supporting documents with you (i.e., blue cards, etc). If the application is complete and correct, they log it in the master file and sign off that it has been certified and provide you with a copy. They then mail the original to the District Advancement Chair so the Eagle BOR can be scheduled.

Additionally, I do not think SM's should block a request to take a MB. If the scout is interested then they should be allowed to pursue.

Back on the subject. If the MBC is on vacation one week then the following week he should get back with the child. if after two weeks then he still hasent made the effort to call then I would call him directly and ask why he hasent called either my son or another child. if he is a true scouter then he will apologize and then contact the child quickly, if not then I might explain to him that this is the last call he will have from our troop because he has let one of my kids down. just my take on this maybe not a good way but then again it my job to take care of MY KIDS.

True, when I was a Scoutmaster, I would always keep my ears open for a counselor that was doing less than a spectacular job counseling the boys in my troop. I would notify the District Advancement Chair of any issues, and would spread the word among fellow scouters not to send any boys to that individual.
