Merit Badge Requirement History?

Postby LV2SRVY » Fri Aug 24, 2007 4:21 pm

*Note: I also have this posted under "Merit Badges -- S-Z"

Greetings,

I am wanting to find information on the history of the Surveying MB requirements. Surveying was one of the first merit badges and continues to this day.

I would like to write an article for my state surveying society's newsletter about the surveying merit badge. I would like to include in the article the first requirements and how the requirements have changed over the years with technology and practice.

Anybody here a collector that would have old requirement pamphlets? Or does anyone know a good source for this information? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Dan,

I do not read all the different sections of this site and I missed your question until tonight about Surveyin. I can send you the Surveyimg requirements if you still want them. Surveying was one of the original merit badges in the first BSA handbook written in 1911. I also have a copy of one of the first Surveying Merit Badge Pamphlets first printed around 1919. I can also send you an electronic picture of the book cover and requirements pages if you are interested :P I can also tell you the first Surveying Merit Badge was earned in 1912. In fact 15 were earned that year. :D
Hope I can help.
