Rifle MB & Helping Boys Get It Done

Postby ThunderingWind » Thu May 14, 2009 5:52 pm

I am an NRA trained Rifle Instructor. I did this course so I could be a Counselor for the Rifle merit badge.

Three boys took the MB at summer camp last year but were unable to get their shot groups small enough to
complter the badge. So they went home with a partial. I get my NRA ticket and the Troop asks me to help
the boys finish.

Using a much better rifle than the ones available at camp, they finished in a little under two hours on the range.
It could have been shorter, but I also had them doing a little different shooting to check their basic skill level and
so they could get used to the rifle and tigger pull before they fired for score.

So I go to file my NRA Training report and the NRA wants me to count entire time they spent "in class" at summer
camp. Why, because I helped with the overall earning of the merit badge.

I know this is more of an NRA policy question but I can not bring myself to submit the report with that time on it.
I feel I should only report the time I spent with the boys on the range.

What would you do?

Remind the NRA that a Scout is Trustworthy and report the hours you actually invested.

The report is for your hours spent instructing. Don't know who you spoke at NRA with that said to include someone elses hours. It is only your instructing time reported.

IMHO....Instead of agonizing over it, list the hours as two different dates/events. They gave you their reasons and I'm sure they collect data on these situations all the time.

Kinda like we do in keeping track of our "hour a week"

I will have to keep an eye out for that one. I just got my instructors card.
