Actually the list is in error, Life, Star and Eagle (in that order) were not ranks. the highest Rank was First Class. They were First Class embellishments the same classification used to describe today's Palms. It wasn't until the 1930s that these embellishments were changed in order and became independent ranks.

I still like the 1958 requirements as it made you become well rounded. You had to take your non required from many areas. My son for instance had every aquatic badge . You could not do that in 1958 and have them count for your Eagle.

Most Scouters I know are quite "well-rounded." (Myself included.)

But actually you are correct. I lost my stomach and am quite proud of that fact. I ended up in the Hospital in January with a DVT. Go Figure. I am still Doctoring for that and will be for another year. But it forced me to change some things.
Back to well rounded scouts. We want our chidren to have a well rounded education and Scouting is nothing more than a type of continuing education. If we provide a well rounded program and well rounded requirements we produce(bad choice of words) better people and citzens in the long run.

Congrats on the former, deja vu on the later... I was talking with a friend of mine at our latest Ordeal ('bout 3 weeks ago) and were jabber jawing... (I've been wearing a knee support on my (R) knee, of and on, since '81, sometimes both knees, but not for DVT.) Anyhow, my friend had the same thing (lower leg) on the way back up to NC from a Scout trip in FL, maybe 8, 10 years ago. I can't remember for sure... He still wears a special support; says he always will.

We want our chidren to have a well rounded education and Scouting is nothing more than a type of continuing education.

Wish you could talk some of that sense into my oldest daughter. It doesn't have to be Scouts, but it must have similar values and the adults have to meet the same criteria... namely, TDL and YPT.
