Documenting Eagle Scout Status on Transcripts

Postby WolfLdr » Fri Jan 19, 2007 2:37 pm

My son will be entering high school this fall. Hopefully he will have his Eagle project and his last two required merit badges completed by the beginning of school. (We're shooting for before summer camp.)

My question is: Can a boy put his Eagle Scout status on his high school transcripts if he earns it before entering high school? My brother told me that he was told when my nephew earned his to wait until after he entered school to make it final because he wouldn't be able to put it on his transcripts. He waited the three weeks. Because he was an Eagle and had good grades he was awarded a complete 4-year scholarship. He only had to pay for his room and board.

Any clarification would be appreciated.

If he earned it, then he earned it. When he is filling out his college applications, it would not be on the transcript which is strictly the grades and test scores sent from the school, it would be under extracurricular activites.

I can't imagine that it matters if he finishes before starting high school. I don't even know that the college app my sons filled out wanted a date for the Eagle past the active dates for scouting. I think Eagle was just a check box.

If he finishes and quits scouts, then he can't really count scouts as a high school extracurricular, but if he joins the National Eagle Scout Association, he can claim membership there for the college apps and on his resume for as long as he maintains the membership.

I agree with Mrw. When my son was completing applications scouting was an extracurricular activity and there was not included on the HS transcript.
If it is not written down then it is not an official rule

Yes, include it proudly under extra-curricular activities. Colleges look favorably upon it.

Eagle should be #1 on his (and every other Eagle's) list of Extracurricular activities.
