22nd Eagle merit badge

I heard (and we know that can be dangerous) that National was going to require 22 merit badges for Eagle rank as of this June (2006). I don't know if this was just a rumor started somewhere but I can't seem to confirm if this is true or just some rumor. Can anyone verify this?

There's been nothing published that I've seen. I'd assume its an inccurate rumor, with no basis in fact.

21 Merit Badges are needed to get Eagle
11 Required
10 Elective

If National went with 22 required, then there would be no electives. This means the scout would be a cookie cutter from the BSA mold. Does this sound like the BSA? Nope.

I'm sure he meant 22 Total MB Required for Eagle, not 22 Required MB Total for Eagle.

As in,
11 Required
11 Elective

OR, more likely,
12 Required
10 Elective

I expect this is just the Rumor Mill running overtime. Don't changes like that usually happen at EOY anyway? Req books are printed with a year in the title rather than a month/year.

Unless that's just applicable to the startup of the usual Scout 'year' running from Aug through Summer Camp.

Regardless of what time in the year it is, these things are usually published pretty well in advance of their taking effect. Since June is only less than two weels away, that should confirm it is only a rumor.

The new First Class requirement does go into effect by the middle of next week.

IIRC the last time they changed the badges required for Eagle, it became effective as of April 1 that year. My son was thrilled that the Cycling badge he had was now one of the requireds.
