Eagle Palm Policy Question

Postby pipestone1991 » Fri May 25, 2007 11:35 am

At our COR last Monday a college kid whom I'm good friends with (went to Philmont with him) was wearing all three of his palms on his Eagle Badge. When I asked him about it, another eaves-dropper erm......dropped in and told me policy said he could wear the three he earned......now I thought it was if you earned 2 palms you were allowed to wear the gold palm, 3 palms=only silver palm....who's correct?

You only wear the minimum number of palms to represent the total number of merit badges above Eagle that you have earned.
For example:
26 MB (5 above Eagle)= wear the Bronze Palm
31 MB (10 above Eagle)= wear the Gold Palm only
36 MB (15 above Eagle)= wear the Silver Palm only
41 MB (20 above Eagle)= wear the Silver and Bronze Palms
46 MB (25 above Eagle)= wear the Silver and Gold Palms
51 MB (30 above Eagle)= wear 2 Silver Palms
and so on, I'm sure by now you get the picture.

Thanks! That's what I thought, my scoutmaster only wears his gold palm (he has two), so now I need to tell my friend the palm policy.

Another question I've always thought about....if you earn 51 merit badges, can you wear a bronze, a gold, and a silver instead of 2 silver?

You could, but the two silver better describes what you have earned and is the appropriate combination to wear.

Also, the overall goal of the BSA is to keep the uniform neat and uncluttered. 2 silver palms would be the best way to go in this intance.
