Here's my project: Building four storage shelves for local food pantry, then collecting donations to furnish schoolchildren in need with school supplies.

Trail work on an eroded trail in the National park.

Rebuild bridges on park land that washed out in flooding in a way the the decks will stay in place the next time.

Collections of magazines, toiletries and other items for soldiers in Iraq.

Shelf assembly and organization for the Volunteers of America thrift store and food pantry.

Benches and a play area for a camp for sick children.

Coordinating a very large city-wide daffodil give-away and planting for the city beautification committee.

My son is building a 36 foot long footbridge on a nature trail for the local community college, he is also making safety improvements by adding railings and a gate to an existing dock that extends into the pond.

My SPL built an outdoor prayer sanctuary at his local church, landscaping, benches, and the stepping stones are different shapes and placed in the shape of a Rosary.

I recently visited a wildlife rehabilitation facility that is run completely on donations outside of Sandusky OH.

They had all kinds of animal enclosures and facilities that had been built as Eagle projects. They were nicely denoted by small plaques with the donor's name.

The best time of year to do this project is in the late spring before people put coats away in storage.

A resent Eagle project in our council was a water study on ever water source on the Pine Mountain trail Located inside F. D. Roosevelt State Park.

These have been done in my troop:

-Built four benches for a church
-Built a fifty foot deck for the school that hosts the troop
-Built a forty foot deck for the school that hosts the troop
-Built the Stations of the Cross for a church
-Built a porch for a family in need

Those are all I can remember... I'll post more later.

Collecting Smoke detectors to give out to my school and community was mine.

A lot of guys in my troop have done their project at the same county park. The people in the park understand how to work with eagle scout projects and give excellent support.

If you can find a place that has worked with eagle scout projects before, it may simplify the job.

However, it is always nice to share the wealth and go somewhere new.

My son just made Life. Ever since he was a Cub Scout he has known what he wants to do for his project.

His elementary school is behind the houses across the street from us, and there is an easement between two neighbors' yards where kids can walk through to school. Many residents of our subdivision use it for casual walking as well. It's just a worn rut in the grass until it gets to the school property, where there are traces of an old concrete walkway. He wants to get the school district to redo their sidewalk while he completes the walkway out to the street, about 155 feet.

It's an awfully ambitious project, especially since he has CP and cannot stand well enough to use a shovel himself. He'll not only have to coordinate all the labor, but he may need to contact several different entities who might have easements in the area - county waste (sewer), AT&T, Comcast cable, etc. It's a good thing he has two and a half years.

A lot of good ideas in this list... #1 son is considering his, but hasn't chosen yet.

I have to say I was really DISAPPOINTED in some of the "Notable Eagle Projects" on the NESA site http://www.nesa.org/trail/projects/index.html . How does folding miniature flags and shipping them to soldiers show leadership? Or taking a neighbor's invention and replicating it for the TSA? The Comic Book example was an admittedly thrown together project.

It seems the standards are very low. The adults in my age group who attained Eagle all had considerably more detailed and responsible projects. Thanks for this list -- it's comforting to know that not everyone takes an easy way out.

A scout in our troop completely sorted and cataloged 100 years of music for the local high school band. He had to check each score and make sure all instrument parts were in the folder. He set up an electronic data base as the catalog.

Here are some recent ones that I have mentored:
- All new picnic and serving tables for a Town Park
- Stone wall/bench for reading program at a nature center
- New bar-b-que pavillion for town park
- Reading, writing and toiletry supply drive for a Vet's hospital
- Bluestone sidewalk for local Historical Museum
- Split-rail fence for City park
- 1/2 and 1 mile milage markers on a 10 mile stretch of local "Rail Trail"
- Elementary School nature trail with outdoor classroom
- Food drive for local SPCA animals
- Blanket and towel drive for SPCA animals
- Flag pole plaza for Village Park
- New instrument shelving units for high School Music Dept.
- Removal of all books, computers, shelves, etc. for library remodel.
- Another project to put all of the above back!
- Wheel chair accessable gardening units for school for disabled students
- Handicap fishing deck at a state DEC lake.
- All new landscaping around church grounds
- Uncover and restore a historical cemetery
