Another Eagle CoH topic ;)

Why do kids have to be so difficult? lol

We started talking about potential Eagle CoH's, but Andrew does NOT want a formal one. Most everything on the internet (that I could find) was related to formal ceremonies. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We also want it short--30 to 45 min. max. I don't want to lose the audience. The only thing we've come up with so far is a power point slide show with pictures, and more than likely he'll have a Reliant K background song. I guess they'll be coming out with a new album next month.

The simpliest "ceremony" is at the link below. Some of the wording is a little hokey but can be edited. The tie tack is replaced by the Eagle Dad pin. I guess it would take less than 10 minutes

I did one a few years back and what we did was the Eagle Charges and the Medal Presentation Mom Dad and the Eagle. I did ask that the Honored One have a t least a few moments of comments you know Thankyou to Whomever etc.

I did not have an Eagle COH. I had completed everything but because of work and college, just never got around to it. My Scoutmaster dropped everything off at my parents house about seven months later.

I was never big on crowds and such and didn't want all the attention.

I guess I'm from the school of thought that believes an ECOH is for more than the Honoree, it is for the Scouting Program to celebrate and for the younger guys to see what they can achieve. There are always those who would prefer not to go public and you have to respect their wishes, but IMHO you need to have something which starts the giving back part of the rank responsibilities.

Just have him come up with a few ideas and run them through you. That's what I did.

On a different note, my old choir teacher led the choir that the lead singer from Relient K was in.

Absolutely! Best one I ever went to was in an Eagle Scout's church, where he had done his Eagle project. Every Scout in the troop had a part in it, and they all took it seriously. What the adults said wasn't scripted ('cept for a very little bit), and there were four or five adults who came up and spoke about the Scout. It was all very moving, and the Eagle's pastor (who had known him his whole life) did a great job bringing it all together. Afterwards there was a dutch oven feast in the fellowship hall. There were over 100 guests; it was very homey and celebratory, like a wedding. One big huge Scouting family. Loved it, and so did the boys.

Thr first one I attended was about 9 years ago. When I asked what to expect, I was told it would be "like a wedding, but without the bride." It was exactly that. It also inspired my youngest to get where he is now (Life). Those I've been to more recently have been less elaborate, including one that was held following a troop CoH in our meeting place.

Thanks for the ideas and the reassurance it's okay not to go formal. He doesn't want formal for a wedding either, but his bride may have a different idea.

I think we need to take it step by step for me to get answers. Yesterday I asked him if he wanted cake and punch or finger food. He opted for cake and punch. Hey, maybe we can combine it. He could have cookies (finger food) and punch. lol Hmm, I would just need to find a place where we can get 'real' cookies, not the box kind.

When My son Had His we had it at Camp in the Campfire Circle. He was and is active in the OA (at 29) and we had an OA Ceremony with 5 INdians Allowat and the Four Corrners of the COmpass. AFter we all went to the camp dining hall for lite snacks.

My son had his Eagle CoH this past April. He had a small story about the History of the Eagle and the Man that he wanted read. An Eagle Scout friend gave the Eagle Charge, and the parents and mentor pins were presented. The speaker was talking about the image of Boy Scouting, that it wasn't just "helping little old ladies across the street", when my son turned to me and reached out his hands as if to help me. The audience broke out laughing, and my son turned bright red. The speaker said that he didn't realize that the 13th point of the Scout Law was stupid.

For refreshments, we had the families in our troop bring a finger food snack to share. Plus, we had punch, coffee, and tea.

I received my Eagle many years ago during family campfire program at summer camp. Very simple presentation.

pipestone yes, that is very close to the ceremony Having campfires etc added to the whole ceremony
He was the 6th in the family to earn Eagle.

Punch and cookies are great, and you can buy one of those 6 ft. long subs and cut it into little sandwiches. Don't worry, the scouts in the troop will eat it!
Simplest ceremony . . . add it to the next Troop CoH as the last (and highest) rank, and have someone read the Eagle Oath and Charge to make it a little more special for him. Good luck!

That's a great idea--adding it to the next COH. He already decided he didn't want a separate meeting (he was thinking after a troop meeting), nor did he want to do formal announcements. People bring food anyway for the COH, and like you said we could get a sub.

It goes without saying everyone is welcome to attend! Just RSVP so I know how many subs to buy! lol
