Gifts for Leaders....

First, it has been a ridicoulsly long time since I posted....apologies

My first post was about my 1st class scout, who had quit the troop, rejoined a new troop, and I was curious about formerly earned merit badges...did they count. I am bursting with gratitude to say, that son made Eagle rank in April

We are planning his COH and I have been looking for gifts for the leaders. Could others share what they have done?

Speaking as a leader, you can't go wrong with a Sharp - AQUOS / 60" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV. Of course, if you really like the guy, I'd go with a Panasonic - 65" Class / 1080p / 600Hz / 3D Plasma HDTV.

Or maybe you should just give him a $20 Starbucks gift card.

Oh, and your son needs to keep living the Oath and Law. Once you reach that pinnacle of Eagle you can see that the trail doesn't end, it goes on to the horizon.

I have been with our troop for 20 years, helping Life Scouts make Eagle (and do it on the council advancement committee as well). A thank-you note is ALWAYS appreciated and an occasional Mentor Pin has been "placed on my tunic," and that is enough. However, surprisingly, thank-you's are far and few between in my experience. I guess it is because we only spend "an hour a week" helping them!

BSA was founded because a young UK Scout did a good turn for a stranger and turned down a gratuity. Thank you and staying involved in Scouting are the best tokens of appreciation a Scout Leader can ask for.

I am happy to report he is going to summer camp (end of this month) as an Asst. Scoutmaster...and I'll be going nowhere, as his brother (five years behind) is Star rank.

Very nice of you to consider thanking his leaders. I haven't experienced much of that in my scouting experience. I guess most parents just expect what we provide.

The best thing you can give a leader as a present is to thank him or her. Not many parents or kids will walk up to someone and either give them a hearty hadshake or hug and really mean it. Then to keep in contact with the leaders when they are back in town. It seems that everyone has no time to remember the leaders who gave their time. When a child comes to you a few years after they become adults in age and thanks you it gives you the the most bestest feeling that you can imagine. But sometimes a Council Strip patch helps.
