Statistics

Are there any statistics kept to see at what age/time in scouting scouts earn their eagle? (e.g. 60% earn it at 17, 20% earn it at 16, 50% earn it after 4 years, 30% earn it after 3 years, etc.)

Interesting. I wonder if NESA keeps them. To get a true picture, though, you'd have to separate out LDS Scouting into a separate group.

I am not LDS, but live in a LDS intensive district. I don't see the distinction between LDS, Catholic, Liturgical Protestant, Evangelical Protestant, Fundementalist Protestant and Jewish troops. Each incorporate aspects of their faith in their program.

I'm sure there are stats somewhere since the data to calculate the numbers can come right from the Eagle Application.

My guess is that virtually all Eagles completed their requirements prior to their 18th birthday.

WeeWillie, he asked about age/Eagle statistics. It's my experience that local LDS troops incorporate their Scouting program into their youth groups, and progress at more of a uniform rate than non-LDS troops. LDSScouting recommends that First Class be completed before age 12. In our area, I've seen many more 14 and 15 year old LDS Eagles than 17 year old drop-dead ones. But, of course, that's a generalization and YMMV. IMHO, it would skew the stats for non-LDS Eagles, but I have only my experience to base that upon.

I have 2 LDS troops that I am the DAC Eagle rep for. I've probably had 8-10 Eagles in the past 3-4 years...all of whom were pushing 18 and almost all had their EBORS post 18.

Approximately six years ago, an executive from the National Office who was attending our University of Scouting (Baden-Powell Institute) mentioned that the average age of a Scout having his EBOR was 17 years 9 months.

I remember this because of how high the average is to the maximum value.

In 2010 we had a Scout become Eagle at 13.25 years of age.
(He's now on his 9th Palm and one of the most impressive boys I have ever known.)

To get the 17.75 yr average with this Scout's 13.25 included in the calculation, you need to have 18 EBORs at the age of 18.

Interesting. I guess the LDS program in this area is an exception, rather than the norm.
