Texas A&M University Corp of Cadets (ROTC) has an special program for Eagle Scouts and girls that have earned their Gold Award. Here is a link:

Being an Eagle Scout/Gold Award holder does not guarantee admission.

I know this is impressive! But is it surprising?

Of our Troop's last 5 Eagles, 3 were active in their High School bands and one had been. I think the attendees at the last NYLT were 75% involved in band.

To me, its more surprising that it was actually anounced. Its a sweet fact that they are there, but even cooler that it was announced on National Television.

I'm not at all suprised. While most Americans don't know what the award requires, many know it is a distinguished honor to be one. You will see on many occations if they (the media, in this case) are talking about someoone (who happens to be an Eagle Scout) they will mention it. Many Americans can connect with this fact.

Good point. A major Paper local to my area, has long service in publishing pics and brief announcements of Eagle awards sent to them.

Not being a fan of any sports team, I wish them all well. And more than that, really appreciate local announcers stating the Eagle numbers. This serves to keep a Scouting achievement on the minds of the masses.

I still have contacts with several of the college bands in the ARea and will try to find out how many Eagles and GUSA Gold Awards they have in the program.
WVU will be easy as I conduct the Northern Pep Band, I have a Former student at PSU. A friend played in the Buckeye band and even dotted the I once. There are several small college bands also . It may take s while but I will post what I find.
ANyone from down south where there are big bands that have connections take a stab at it also.
Oh and By the way " Country Roads Take Me Home" WVU #! USA Coaches Poll.

psshh.....I quit band in 7th grade. I do Speech & Debate. I noticed in my catagory (giving speeches on U.S. issues) tends to have the most scouts out of the many catagories.
