Can I get back into the OA after several years gone by?

I just recently got back into scouting because my son joined the Cub Scouts. My question is: I was an OA member when I was a Boy Scout and now that I am registered as a Cub Scout Den Leader I was wondering if and what I would need to do to "catch up" re-register/pay past dues to get back into the OA? Or now as an adult do I have to be nominated as an adult?

You would need to contact the Lodge in Your Council to see what you need to do,it can vary Lodge to lodge. In our lodge you need to provide proof you were a member an old membership card, varifying records from another lodge etc. Then we ask them to pay two years of back dues and the current years dues. Not a really hard process. Hope this helps.

Why should someone pay registration/dues to a lodge to which they didn't belong. The lodge incurred no expenses for that member they didn't know about. Where this member was or was not registered has nothing to do with current activity and registration.
It makes no sense to pay anything but the current registration.

As I said it varys Lodge to Lodge and the two years past dues are for members that were part of our Lodge and dropped for whatever reason.

Because the Youth of the lodge said so. And in the OA that is all that counts.

OA does have some thing sthat are standard But they can pretty well set dues, etc within the lodge. I know at least one lodge haqs dues at 50.00 per year most are 10-20 depending uponm their situation. The youth totally are the Policy makers in a lodge. National Ploicy dictates Number of Ceremonys per number of Ordeals Brotherhood etc. Vigil Rules, Conversion rules O-B etc. This one reason I love the OA not alot of interference. ANd the kids call the shots.

Our lodge, Half-Moon #28, requires some proof of membership (from the old OR same lodge), one year's past dues plus the current year's, and a sit down with the lodge chief to see what you remember from your Ordeal (and/or Brotherhood and Vigil conversions). . . just general stuff to make sure they did go through it! Getting the info from the old Lodge is the best, IF THEY HAVE RECORDS or even STILL EXIST!!

I was in the same boat. Inducted in 1983, I had long let mine expire. Once my son was old enough, the lodge here only required an affadavit from me. I tried my old lodge but they just snickered electronically in their reply!

Wow 38 years between ordeal and brotherhood, I took 25 years myself. I took my brotherhood the same weekend my son went through ordeal.

It was the same with me. I got elected in July of 1969 and did my Ordeal in August of 1969.
When my son got into Boy Scouts, I got back into the OA and did my Brotherhood in November of 2007.
I am also a Scoutmaster.

It's gonna happen. Savings are in overhead. About 100K or so between the 2 councils. We have a RT tonight where the new SE is supposed to be there and take questions.

Just got a guy to sign up again that has been out of the loop for about 20 years, he was honored with vigil as a youth and his son will be taking his ordeal in June of this year.
