What happens to the OA lodges when two councils merge?
smtroop168's council (Keystone) and mine (York-Adams Area) are in the process of merging.
Question
What happens to the two lodges when that happens?
Do they remain as two separate Lodges, or are they combined into one?

They will be combined into one lodge.Usually with a new name but with the lowest Number.

One Lodge...Mechanics of making that happen still TBD from what I hear from our Lodge Advisor since one of the lodges is supposed to be hosting a Conclave in 2010. More emotion in this process than the overall merger.
The new name is Wagion something.

I don't think the lodges have numbers any more, they just take the number of the council.

There are still number regardless of what has been mentioned. They tried to eliminate Numbers because of future mergers. I am pretty sure Numbers were still being used at NOAC this past summer

Maybe, my lodge went through a merger several years back. No new number. We were told that the lodge was taking the number of the council, and that was the way it was.

I agree with Wagionvigil usually take the lowest number and adopt a new name.
also very helpful to keep both lodge hitories alive if possible. Back when my lodge was formed, The new lodge kept the beaded sash (which the one lodge used to signify their Chief) and the bonnett of the other lodge for the chief as well.
Beaded Chief sash is still in use today.

I think the lodge names from 10 down should be preserved
