There are as many good ways to back up your data as there are to lose it. But...

While the above post is a good way to backup an entire drive (i.e., an 'image' backup), I also use:

....to backup just my data, on a regular schedule. It's free, simple and reliable.

I have an external HDD enclosure that has 2 1-TB drives in a RAID array that backup everyday my important files on the 3 computers in my home. I know I should probably be doing something online, but I just can't stomach paying the monthly fee. Some backup is better than none?

I am a self-employed computer tech, and I make extensive use of business networking groups. It's almost impossible to get people and even businesses to run backups on their data.

i use so many different computers at home and work that i have moved all of my data into the cloud. I use Dropbox for file storage and it syncs current version of all files between all of my PCs and I can access the files via my smartphone. I use Google Chrome for my browser and i use the sync feature to keep my environment and applications consistent on all computers. I use Gmail for personal email. I use Google bookmarks for website favorites - again synced across all computers. I use Google reader for newsgroups. Flickr for photo sharing. Pandora for music.

If one of my computers goes down i can quickly access anything from one of my other computers or through the internet. Best thing is that this works on PC, MAC, and Linux.
