Double dipping

Postby japhmi » Wed Jun 29, 2011 12:55 pm

I'm pretty sure after reading around that 'double dipping' is okay, but I admit that I don't have all of the docs memorized.

For my scouts, if I had them go on a 5-mile orienteering course (where they had to measure the height of something), would that could as both 2nd class 1b and 1st class 2, or would it have to be a 6-miler?

A five mile orienteering course sounds extremely ambitious for Tenderfoot scouts. How many points will you have on the directions, and how much time are you allotting?

That would definitely count for both items. It would be
"... a 5-mile hike ... approved by your adult leader ..." (2nd class 1b)
and it would also be
"... an orienteering course that covers at least one mile and requires measuring the height and/or width of designated items ..." (1st class 2).

They have a couple of hours. The local orienteering club is putting on an event, and they have a 5-miler for people working on 2nd class, and a 3.5-miler for people working on 1st class, and I was going to ask them about throwing in an optional 'measure something' portion on the 5-miler for kids who want to earn both. They've been running these events for a couple of years, and they've had good luck running kids though it before.
