Online Reference for rules of Scout Advancement

Postby biglou » Thu Jan 01, 2009 11:54 pm

Does anybody know of a link for the rules of Scout Advancement? I have a definite need for those rules because it has the potential of holding up 3 boys from getting their Eagle Scout Projects approved. If you want the whole story, please e-mail me at (i deleted my e-mail address here). Any help will be appreciated. FYI, I have a copy of the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project booklet in front of me.

Big Lou...I sent you a separate email but...depending on the situation the BSA Advancement Committee book, the ES Workbook or your local council advancement committee should give you answers.

Big Lou,
I, too, sent you a separate e-mail and agree with smtroop168 that the Advancement Committee Guidebook should answer all of your questions, as should the advancement committee chairman or your scout exec. Waiting to hear from you! Bill

I was looking to see if there was an online version of the Advancement Guidelines. I was thinking that there might be one like the Guide to Safe Scouting. I was unable to find one so I had to ask. I have found a bunch of information to give to the Troop Committee, but I am unsure how they will recieve this. They do not understand the 4 steps of Scout Advancement. A Scout learns, A Scout is tested, A Scout is reviewed, A Scout is recognized. Their meaning of being reviewed is retesting the boys on the skills that one of the ASMs or myself have tested them. Some of the boys have complained about what they were doing in the Board of Reviews. Well, they were offended when I told them. Oh well. My Troop's Committee meeting is this Wednesday. I can see that this one is going to be another fun one.

Guys,

We are the ones who have the online version of the Advancement Policies:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Ad ... t_Policies

We cannot include the entire book but we do include 29 of the main pages out of 50.

The section on Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project is included in it's entirity:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Eagle_Project

The Eagle Project Checklist combines all of the requirements from all four main sources onto one page.

The 12 Steps section tells more about the Eagle process:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/12 ... e_to_Eagle

The Boy Scouts section has many more topics:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Boy_Scouts

Check it out!

Sorry, I only gave links to resources on Eagle Project because I thought that was the scope of the request.

The Boards of Review Section does contain the full text of that Advancement Policies section and the training links:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Boards_of_Review

Merit Badge Counseling contains the training materials:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Me ... Counseling

Merit Badge Policies includes the applicable Advancement Policies and Boy Scout Requirements materials:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Me ... e_Policies

You can print your own blue cards from the Merit Badge Application article:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Me ... pplication

The cool part is that you can pre-fill in the troop, names, etc.

I guess another key aspect of earning Eagle is the Scoutmaster Conference and we have the 33088 text on that as well as the links to the online training module:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Sc ... onferences

As I look through it there are over 300 pages at MeritBadge.Org that can be drawn upon as you work towards Eagle.

Check it out. It is our sister site:
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. I just bought the Advancement Guidelines for my own Scouting Library. I am slowly increasing my library which includes EMT-PARAMEDIC,Firefighting, and Scouting books. I am starting to look for older Scout Books on eBay and at the garage sales and flea markets.
