Why I am so fond of on-line advancement

Absolutely incredible!

We had a boy transfer into the troop from out of state last fall, about the time that school started. Turned in registration and transfer paperwork to Council at that time.

For some reason he has not been on the roster and the SM has asked about this a couple times when he was in the office. He was told they would take care of it and call after earlier records from the other Council.

This week as I tried to upload his new rank and merit badges, he is still not on our roster.

This time I call and ask what I need to do to get him added. She knows the name and remembers trying to call for records and not getting a call back, but goes to check on the current registration. Low and behold, he is on the WRONG troop's roster!

I can only imagine the trouble I would have had with this under the old system where they did not always enter advancement data promptly or correctly at Council and it was all done on paper. He would have ended up dropped completely from scouts when the other troop did not recharter him. And we all would have looked stupid asking the family to re-fill out the applications to get him re-entered.

Nice to here a story were the system works. Probably happens more often than not, but those stories a not as nearly as much fun to tell.
