Is anyone out there a Textile MBC???

I am a new to Boy Scouting Mom, half way to ASM, and MBC for Gardening already. I find myself drawn to this badge. I sew alot of different type of things. Are any of you proficient at this and willing to give me some pointers of how to get this done?

The first step is to get and read the pamphlet. If you still feel that you are competent to teach the material to the boys, then sign up as a counselor.

This requires filling out an adult application (another one even if you did one for ASM) and a merit badge counselor application for the badges you want to counsel.

Can we assume you have read the requirements to the badge?

Yes, I have read the requriements. I am a long time sewer/quilter, and know, have an idea, or can find out most of the terms, etc.

I was just wondering if someone out there had a good plan for helping the boys with this one. it is a bit obscure...ehhh!

AMS,
I'm a Textiles Merit Badge Counselor. I studied Textiles in College, so I was happy to put my knowledge and studies to use. As far as the terms go, you can do a Google search on most of those and examples are in the MB book. Since they've added the process of making synthetics to the MB book, it has changed significantly over the last few years. I find the boys really enjoy this badge, but it takes some persuasion to get them started. I have my gear in a small box that I take to Winter Camp, Merit Badge Fair, etc, and the Scouts can complete this badge in about 1.5 hours. They especially enjoy doing the 'burn' tests on fibers and hair to help determine whether they are wool, cotton, nylon, etc. I also have a small lighted microscope to let them look at fibers. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Glad to see someone interested in this badge!
