and I was wandering how I apply to attempt to create one.

I actually submitted an idea for a meritbadge about 4 years
ago.

I wrote up a list of requirements, and submitted it to my
District Executive, and in turn submitted it to the national
advancement office.

I got a nice letter from the national advancement office
saying that my idea has been submitted for consideration but
the advancement committee was not going to consider new MB
until their next convention.

I guess they dont hold a conference very often, so it is a
waiting game. I was also told through the grapevine that they
have piles of ideas to go through so as i said, its a waiting
game.

My merit badge idea was "Sports Officiating"

I see. Well I really hope they like my idea because boy scouts
hasnt even touched any form of creative writing and I think
its very important for kids to experience it.

Creative Writing would be a good Merit Badge. Some of these
badges are too structured (Astronomy is one, I believe), but
that's because most of them have to be. This one would give
the Scout more freedom to explore his potential and find his
strengths. Good idea, BM.

Thank you! I completely agree. The way I am planning on
making the badge would make it very free flowing and
different.

Firefish, you should get the Oceanography Merit Badge. I know
Marine Biology and Oceanography are different, but at least
it's a step in the right direction.

BM, do you have any requirements written out? If so, post
them, and everyone on the board can help with new ideas and
stuff.
