"2010 Historical" Merit Badges

I've got the revised requirements posted on the USSSP, along with links to BSA's pamphlet pdfs and other info.

Craig has already done the worksheet for Carpentry. He's also done worksheets for the rank changes which took effect on 1/1/10 and for some of the merit badge changes (including Scuba). They're on the USSSP and if not on the wiki yet, will be soon.

Thank goodness...it will be much easier under Pathfinding now to locate the local blacksmith, livery stable and telegraph office than to identify places to buy groceries, gasoline or get auto repairs. I see a great deal of short-shrifting the requirements to adapt them to modern life.

Did anyone else notice how on the Tracking flyer someone misaligned the tracks with the animals shown? Awesome.

Your unit is obviously not in Central PA...we have lots of Amish and Mennonite Buggies on the roads around here.

Had a note from the camp director of the camp we will be attending this summer. They plan on offering those merit badges during camp.

Eberly Reservation ,Camp Conestoga Westmoreland-Fayette Council BSA is offering some of the Merit Badges maybe all they were not sure. I asked about the Signaling because you must be proficient in Morse Code to teach it and low and behold the camp director has been into it for years.

I saw a post yesterday on the BSA website. It listed requirements and the dates the badge may be earned from April 1,2010until December 31,2010. I guess this means its ok now???????????

Scouts that didn't complete the badges by December 31, 2010 may no longer earn the badges or use them for advancement.

Paul, the historical MBs can't be used towards any advancements any longer, but can Scouts still work on and earn them just for the sake of earning them, like other "retired" MBs (and maybe still get and wear the badge while they're still available)?

Do not mis-interpret what Paul said (because he meant exactly what he said).

Adults! Pay Attention: Requirements completed (by the Scout(s)) by December 31st, 2010, and then submitting award applications (by the Adults) on/after January 1, 2011, to the CSS for "award" are not the same thing. Don't be stoopie and confuse the two.

IOW, do not hesitate to submit any of these MBs to the CSS for "award" AFTER December 31st, 2010, -if- the requirements were, in fact, completed by the Scout by December 31st. Otherwise, do not.

I would assume they will remove the badges from stock very soon, and destroy the remainders, particularly since they wee a special issue with gold borders. So getting the badge will probably not be possible. They shouldn't wear them if they weren't earned while they were available, given the special rules that were used for these badges.

As Bob said, if a Scout finished one or more of them by the end of 2010, they should turn in their completed "blue cards" or equivalents quickly, and their units should turn in advancement reports and order the badges ASAP.

Looking for confirmation... Saw on a local Yahoo Group board that completion period was extended, but MB must have been started prior to 31 Dec.

Historic Merit Badge Data Entry Deadline Extended

With the deadline of December 31, 2010 for Scouts to earn the historic merit badges, the decision has been made to allow additional time thereafter for entering them into the ScoutNET system. The deadline for doing so has been set as March 31, 2011. This applies to those at the local council who enter advancement based on forms submitted, or unit management software file uploads provided. It also applies to unit advancement processors using Internet Advancement.

The merit badges affected are: Carpentry, Pathfinding, Signaling, and Tracking.

This is not intended as an extension of time to earn the badges; only as additional time for data entry. Troops can submit advancement reports for Historic Merit Badges earned by Scouts before 12/31/10 through March 31, 2011.

I would hate to think that they would've shut the date entry down on 12/31. I'm sure there were hundreds of Scouts who finished on that day.
