I don't know which forum to post this is in, so will post in both the Rank and reqiuired Merit Badge Forums. Some of the requirements for the Camping Merit Badge and Second and First Class badges, specifically the number of nights camping out and the hikes are similar. Can the same event (like a Troop backpacking trip) be used to satisfy both requirements?

In second class it says "since joining" participate in 5
In First class it says "since joining" participate in 10 so 5 plus 5 =10

It's up to the merit badge counselor. There is no BSA official answer to your question.

Yes you may use the same event/activity as both a rank requirement and for satisfaction of the merit badge requirement.
