Is anyone aware of where I can find information on the number of palms, by type, that have been awarded.

BSA does NOT keep those records on a national level. Palms are only recorded at the Council level, so it is well nigh impossible to get the number you're looking for.
Others have asked before.

Each Troop should have the copy of Advancement Report on hand (forever, I keep these old report for Troop history). My Council keep these orginial hard copy record about three years.

It is unlikely your council only retains advancement information for three years.
They are required by the BSA to maintain advancement records indefinitely. While applying for a veteran's pin a few years back I had to get proof of my youth membership. My original council (which has gone through two consolidations) still had all my records from over 30 years ago.
