One more point, only somewhat related. Why/how is the SM discussing the SPL and ASPL positions with you?

SPL is elected by the Scouts in the Troop. ASPL is appointed by the SPL with the agreement of the SM.

Pipestone

Now I am really confused, but that doesn't matter. If you are offered SPL again, take it. I was SPL for 13 months and it was my best youth Scouting experience. It is by far the most challenging position in Scouting and those challenges will open opportunities for you that will never have in any other activity. I was an A/B student. My senior year I applied for an Army ROTC Scholarship. The list of activities listed on the application form include both Eagle (I am not) and SPL. Of the 4 officers on the selection board, all were former SPLs. Guess what we talked about for 15 minutes. Needless to say I received a full college scholarship and I am now a retired Army Officer.

My advise to you is do not pop off on your SM and do not suprise him next July with your Soccer plans. You will need his support for your Eagle Board. Best of luck!
