"Demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath (Promise) and Scout Law in your everyday life. "

for this req, we ahve to write how we did each.
ex: I was trustworthy when I ......
Does anyone else do this?

Before you attack my troop on putting in an extra req, its just how they wnt us to show how we were "scout like"

No, I have to say we dont. But I have to admit, it is a nice way to get them more involved.

By requiring writing this it is adding to the requirements.
If it is not written down then it is not an official rule

Gotta agree with ASM-142. While it's a great idea how to get the Scouts to understand how they live the Oath & Law, but making them write it down to get the requirement signed off IS adding to the requirements.

I had a SM conference last night with a Scout who just finishe his Tenderfoot requirements. We discussed this very issue.

Making it be in writing is adding to the requirements. Demonstrate and/or discuss is not the same thing as "Do this and then write about it."

It is really pretty clear who is trying to live with the Scout spirit and who is not. And we discuss some aspect of this every time we do a BOR - what does it mean to the boy and how does he show it.

My kids would have been the rebels that refused to write it down and I would have had their back on this one.

We ask questions like what does this or that part of the law or oath mean to you? How do you show that in your daily life? You could lie to us in a BOR less easily than you could inwriting a work of fiction about how wonderfully you carry out this part of life.

Besides, you are who you are, and I have yet to see a scout who is always great at scout stuff and a jerk everywhere else. You could argue that some kid is just a great actor for one hour a week, but the true colors will show.

I admit, it does sound like a good idea, but I see the issues with it, especially the part about adding to requirements.

Brings up an interesting point though. Even though it's probably been discussed before, how is it deteremined in each of your individual troops if the scout has fulfilled the requirement?

If I were amde to think of this on the spot, then that would be hard. If also, whats the differnce between an orla list and a written down list?
