Stepping down

I have been SPL of my troop for the last 6 months. In that time (and about 3 months before) our troop has hit a rough patch. Attendance is down, and we have had some program issues. I am stepping down as SPL to allow another scout (there is only one running(and i think he will do good)) to have the opportunity to lead. I ,hopefuly, will be the new ASPL. How can I help the new SPL w/o steeling any of his thunder, so to speek.

First off, I'll give you a bit of advice..

You cant have your full name in your signature.


Also, many message boards you would get nailed due to the name you have. FYI

I agree in that your full name does not belong on this (or any) board being that you are a minor.

As far as not stealing the new SPL thunder, do not contradicate anything that he says in front of the other scouts, allow him to make his own decisions (even if his is wrong), and be supportive.

Work with the new SPL behind the scenes. Meet before meetings to go over your game plan to ensure you are both following the same ideas. Also, make it a point to do After-Action Reviews (AAR's), the Boy Scouts call this Reflection. At the end of a meeting (or end of evening of camp) sit down together and spend 5-10 minutes discussing what happened during the day. What went well, what did not go well, and why it went well or not, and any suggestions for the future.
