Scouter

Sorry. Email habits are confusing, as they are very limited. Nothing funny about that of course, because nobody here would think so. It implied (good intentions anyway) that because he's a Scouter, he will respond to inquiries about the information.

Like other members with useful sites, they generally welcome new stuff for inclusion in the site. He once clarified an insignia placement for me, before I could consult the Guide. 8)

Oh yeah, I agree whole-heartedly. I don't know Mike personally; but, based on his web pages (and postings about himself), I respect him greatly--as a Scouter and a soldier. Mike has put a lot of time and meticulous effort into his web pages. However, when I need a BSA uniforming reference, I go to the latest copy of the Insignia Guide, first.; the Uniform Inspection Sheets, second; and USScouts (including Mike's pages), which are unofficial, third.

To answer your question on NESA. I don't think that matters. You're an Eagle Scout and the selection board will recognize that. USNA appointments are extremely competitive. Work hard and get good grades and be involved in other activities to show the board that your the kind of person the Navy can't live without.

Good luck.

If you are seeking a Military Academy appointment or an ROTC Scholarship go to their respective web sites. The sites have lots of good info about what it takes to be competitive for an appointment or scholarship.

You don't have to be an Eagle to be competitive. A strong record as SPL and JASM will carry you. If you are an Eagle, you better have a strong SPL or JASM record.

If you are an Eagle Scout, GSUSA Gold, Billie Mitchel, Quartermaster you are eligible to enlist in the Army as a Private - Enlisted Pay Grade 2.

I did several searches on Army Knowledge Online for an Eagle Scout Medal and couldn't find anything which probably means the suggestion is not active. Personally, military awards should be for service while in the military which is probably the reason the idea isn't active.

What is defined as a strong record? I've been SPL once, and I'm trying to become a JASM, but in my troop, it's hard to get that position, and because I'm pretty new in the troop, I don't know if I can get that before December.

One consideration might be: what accomplishments or experiences did one have in the (whichever) Position? It really wouldn't matter how long, or how many times one served there, as much as what benefit it produced (both for Unit and individual). Food for thought. :)
