Finally!!!

Postby ThunderingWind » Mon Jan 14, 2008 11:45 am

It only took my Cubmaster four attempts at submitting the paperwork, but my old Council finally completed my Webelos Den Leader knot.

Other leaders papwerwork was also "lost in the process." They have also received theirs.

I have not been with that Pack and Council for almost two full years.

Now, to get the old council to transfer/transmit the data to my current council so my official records are updated (since there is NO national database to do so).

Congratulations!

I was pressed into service as a Web leader in my pack. The Cubmaster knew that I had attended all my older son's Web 1 meetings in another pack before we moved, so he asked me to step up as assistant when My younger one entered 4th grade. Two weeks into the school year the Den Leader's wife left and took the kids, so he wasn't really motivated any more. I filled in for two years, and never had a chance to attend formal training. After crossover I was given a form to fill out for this award. That's the first I knew about it. It actually crossed my mind to attend a training class just to get the knot, even though I had already changed out my epaulets.

I'm glad you got your knot!

Not In It for The Knots

Postby ThunderingWind » Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:03 pm

I know we are not in this for the knots, but I fully believe in recognizing the time and effort put forth by all the volunteers in Scouting.

These knots are just a little token of saying "Thank You."

When I earned my Advisor Training knot, I made sure I let both the crews that I worked with, that it was because of them that I earned it.

Awards

Postby riverwalk » Wed Jan 16, 2008 1:16 am

Yep, I've seen a number of people missing very few things to get their Award, and knot. Unfortunately some leaders don't realize it, but they can turn in for an Award later down the road, so long as all the criteria was met way back when. Encourage new leaders by getting them trained. If they attend training, they learn all about this stuff, then it's up to them. If we're mentoring leaders, make sure they realize that by actually doing the requirements (Award), then they in turn put forth the effort that helps keep our programs going.

Stuff getting lost after turning in? Surely "knot", haha. Yep, some things have to go through again.
