Leader Training Courses

I am currently Director of Cub Leader Training for our district. Our council is redoing the districts as of Jan 1. Our district will be smaller due to potential growth. The problem arrises in that a good number of the people we had been pulling from to help with training (scout as well as cub) were from the other part of the district (which will now be part of another district).

Does anyone have any suggestions strategies to get people to commit to helping with a section of training? (It's only a one Saturday commitment or one Wed. evening commitment per training session)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WE use people from Different districts and it is not a problem.

Yeah, I understand. We're close to splitting again in my District. I would do everything I could, to get all working together during this transition, even if there is a combined District Training schedule provided. It may give time for Trained Leaders to then be prepared for the next time your own District needs to schedule this.

In our case, we know that our new area (my area) will end up with most of the District's active Scouters. I'm just one, but for the second year now, I've been trying to show Scouters they can attend class anywhere, and help other Districts if their schedule permits. There isn't an acceptable alternative. I make less outings than many other Scouters, but step in to help if they're short on something...when I do attend. At one Cub outing, the Chair told me several of her Scouters failed to show. I rounded up some longtime Scouters there like me, who were just there without assignments. All we did was cover what she needed, and it worked. She was amazed we helped, and I said something like, that's why we're here doin' this.

The biggest problem is that I got someone lined up to be my assistant this past spring before all this split came up. She's in the other district. Soooo..... Will tell my DE that I'd like him to see if he could find someone like her in our district to help. She complimented me completely. What I was lacking in, she was good in.

A Scout(er) is???? Just ask her if she still plans to assist as planned earlier. If she says, well yeah but you gotta help me......say, well yeah, of course I will.

We have 4 districts that have gone together to do Adult Leader Trainins and Adult Outdoor Skills. IT works GREAT. It gives you a bigger pool of people to help with training. Each District takes their turn heading the program. But we can use people from any of the districts as staff. There are two guys that have the greatest cooking presentation you have ever seen. They only want to do that part of the training. And believe me they are so good that is exactly what we let them do. We do three of these trainings a year and no one gets burned out.

We also do 3 a year, but it would be rather difficult to combine with other districts. Our trainings are quite well attended, and our fall weeknight one has almost outgrown the venue. Our district is known for the quality of their trainings. (Big load to carry on your shoulders when you take over the program!!!)

Our program kickoff is on Thursday night, and I think I might make a pitch for assistance as well as advertize the program. It will still be our "old" district for the fall sessions, but I'm wanting to transition as easily as possible as many will now have their own "new" district training to be helping with.
