Can I still achieve eagle?

Postby Mar424 » Thu Sep 01, 2005 8:31 pm

Hello, let me tell you my story.......

I went into boy scouts straight from cub scouts, I got to star rank and pretty much stopped. After the summer vacation I didnt go back, I lost interest. Now a little more then two years later, I am trying to figure out if I can still become eagle. I joined back with my troop about two weeks before my 17th birthday, they knew I was in a time situtation. So I became a Patrol leader, because I need 6 months in a leadership role for me to become life. Then another 6 months to become eagle, so I would finish that requirment for eagle two weeks before my 18th birthday. Now, moving onto merit badges. I have all the merit badges I need except for, I think 8 eagle required. BUT, thats a big but, I do not have ANY blue cards. So basically.....

1. If I have no blue cards, does that mean I have to do everything over?
2. Being patrol leader, If we have no meetings/events over the summer, does that still count as part of the 6 months?
3. Is it really possible for me, in my last year of high school, to go from star to eagle?

if you went back to the same troop that you drooped out of then they should have all your records. if you keep your nose to the grindstone and stay focused YES you can be an EAGLE but if your records are lost then you might be able to go to the council and request a lookup to find your old records. good luck remember " do your best"

You can do it if you work really hard at it.

The summer counts as part of the 6 months. These are counted as calendar months, not the amount of troop activity in the month.

The records for your badges should be able to be regenerated if you keep at it. Is it the same troop? If so, there should be someone there who has records. If it is a different troop, you should still be able to get the records retrieved from a council database.

Good luck!

I would advise that you read the advancement requirements carefully. I think it can be done. Good Luck. Also, try to find an adult leader that can help you verify and ensure you have met the requirements. You have little time for error.

If you have any Eagle 90 Day Badges that you have to earn, EARN THEM! :!:

I recomend you verify that the merit badges you earned in the past are recorded. The Troop where you earned them should have advancement records detailing you earning the badges. If the Troop cannot help, then a trip to the Council Service Center would be in order. They can verify what has been recorded in the past. If they have no record of it, then the only other thing you could do would be to talk to the MB counselor who taught you and see if he has a record. (They are supposed to keep their portion of the blue card for 1 year, but may have kept it longer). If that fails, then you would need to earn the badge again.

Yes, the time counts even if your Troop/patrol takes a summer break
3. Is it really possible for me, in my last year of high school, to go from star to eagle?

Possible? YES, however it will require a great deal of attention and work to complete. Remember in addition to needing the required merit badges, you will also need to do an Eagle Scout Project after you have made Life.
I would recomend that you earn any 90 day Eagle required badges now (Personal FItness, Personal Management, Family Life) as well as any others that you perceive as more difficult. This way they should be done when you begin your Eagle Project.

Best Wishes,

If you contact the council service center where you were a troop member they will have everything in their system and can give you a print out of it. I will say if it is not in their that is a problem.

a) There are TWO required MBs with 90-day requirements: Family Life and Personal Fitness. You need to start them NOW if you want to finish them.
b) Yes, summer counts
c) Keep a troop job
d) Start the Eagle project ASAP as it takes time to plan, develop, and carry out
e) You must complete ALL requirements, including SM conf, prior to your 18th birthday EXCEPT for the BOR, which if you completed everything else on time, you get 90 days after your 18th b-day to complete
f) Look at your Star BOR date, for you to do make Eagle, it must be at least 1 year prior to your 18th b-day as you need 6 months each for Life and Eagle

You are correct, Personel Management also has time restraints:
Prepare a budget reflecting your expected income (allowance, gifts, wages), expenses, and savings. Track your actual income, expenses, and savings for 13 consecutive weeks. When complete, present the results to your merit badge counselor.
