The 2005 Citizenship in the Community Req #7 calls for the boys to watch a movie that shows that the actions of one individual or group can have a positive influence on a community. Any thoughts out there on potential movies.

I thought about Erin Brockovich, but it is rated R (language).

Erin Brockovich is a good choice. As far as the rating is concerned there is a version that has been edited for TV that is not at a R rating.

I'm glad I read this thread. I didn't realize that for this MB you had to watch a movie. I like the idea and might suggest to my boys (that already have the MB) to view a movie and I will watch it with them. Thanks.

I would stay away from anything R rated. Stick with PG & PG-13. Nothing worse than having a Scout come home from a Scout meeting or outing & telling mom & dad "We watched a R rated movie!"

I used "Music of the Heart" for this requirement and thought it went over really well. It stars Meryl Streep and is rated either G or PG. Check it out.

Somebody help me out. What was that movie about a math teacher in Los Angeles who took a class of underperforming students and led them to being the top math students in the state? It would be an excellent choice.

OK. I found it myself. The movie is "Stand and Deliver". Came out in 1988. Four Thumbs Up.

How about "Follow Me Boys"? It was made in the 1960s with Fred MacMurray, who played a man who founded a troop, was SM for 20 or so years and all the lives he positively touched. I bought it off Amazon.com.

we watched it after one of our court of haonors. It's a very good movie.

Heres a great suggestion:

Coach Carter, or Remember the Titans.

Coach Carter just came out on dvd recently and did great in the box office this past spring ( or winter?) and is rated pg-13.

Remember the titans, is also another great film. Its a disney movie, however, its rated one of the greatest sports films ever. Its rated PG so there shouldnt be any problem with letting the kids see it at a meeting.

You can also have the kids watch Erin Brocovitch with their parents at home, and have the parents write a letter stateing that they watched it with them. Just to make it legit.
