Here's a Website with 339 sample Eagle service projects: http://www.scoutorama.com/project/. Good luck!

As good a place to start as any is bu reading the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook
http://www.scouting.org/boyscouts/eagle ... 8-927D.pdf
If you want to do the paperwork on your computer you might want to use:
http://www.scouting.org/boyscouts/eagle ... packet.rtf.
It is Your Project, but I think you might want to start by thinking of where and who before you start with the what!!
Who do you want to benefit from your project? Your Church? Your School? or maybe the Organization that charters your Troop?
Where do you want to do this project?
Remember it's a Leadership Project not a work project, so as well as being of service to the organization you choose it should spotlight your leadership ability.
I know that I would be more comfortable leading a project that was about something I was good at!!
It doesn't have to involve construction or building something!! One of the best projects I have seen lately was one where a Scout organized a Day Camp for members of ARC.

Just make sure that you are a Life Scout and have approval before starting on the project.
If it is not written down then it is not an official rule

see i dont like posts like this.
being a eagle myself, and knowing the dedication and purpose the projects take, they exist for you to figure out what you want to do. the project should be original and have a certain reason why you did it...kinda like a inner meaning. it shouldnt be anyone elses idea, but yours alone.

im not trying to discourage you. hell, i love it when kids are on the ball and excited to do a project, but just remember that the project should be yours and yours alone.

well, depending on approval, here are a few ideas.

1. put in a hiking trail on the local gamelands

2. install a short handicap trail on either the gamelands or wildlife refuge.

3. put up a fishing pier on either of the fore-mentioned

4. build an orienteering course down at scout camp.

no discouragement, but in my council, they wouldnt approve of your fourth one. because its supposed to help another organization / community than the boy scouts.

You seem to want to build something, I like the 2nd one because it will help many people.
Curious, how old are you?

edit: id talk to you more in this thread over pm if it was allowed but for some reason you cant pm people..bummer.

So you have plenty of time. A friend of mine referbished a gazebo for a local church and he was nearing his 18th birthday. It took him at least 3 weeks to pull permits and everything. I dont know about how your council / district runs the strictness of the eagle projects, but here in DAC they bring up things like permits that you wouldnt even think of. If its needed in any of your projects, just keep in mind, expecially drawing close the holiday season that the city government likes to be slow on permits. Its a hastle cause they some times dont know the circumstances, but you have plenty of time to get it done before your 18. Rather be a eagle late, and have a nice complete project than to rush it to make a deadline and do a "half ass" job.

our district insnt too strict. and in my area, i dont know if id have to get permits for some of the things i want to do, id have to check.

i live in a northern area, so building anything during the winter/holidays is pretty much out. i can pretty much use this time for planning.

Yes, it is quite simple. You have an '8' then a ')' together.

I will put what you have typed into a code:
Code: Select all
November 8)

Now I will put it in the forum:
November 8)

To get around this, you will need to put space between the 8 and ) .
Like:
November 8 )

Enjoy.

The orienteering course is a great idea -- just don't do it for a Scout camp. There are two local parks here with orienteering courses and both of them were created as Eagle Scout service projects. You might find your local parks department is more than happy to have you build a course for them.

If the Game-lands or Wildlife refuge are State owned you might want to make sure that you start all the paperwork ASAP!!
The "Red Tape" and waiting for permission to go ahead with projects on State owned property can take eons.
They can be very picky about what, where and what materials they will allow to be used, you might have to meet all sort of Federal and State regulations.

well, i know as far as the game lands goes, they arent too awfully strict, pretty much get permission from the district manager, and you're good to go .

Our scout camp is on state property and we have to jump through hoops of fire to do anything. It takes time to get anything approved.

is it state property, or gamelands. i know they are "the same" but they really arent. on the gamelands, pretty much anything goes (within the limits), like i said.
