Postby cballman » Sat Nov 12, 2005 4:38 pm

Ok I have a question. we had our elections earlier in the year, did the call out ceremony at camp in July, was going to do the Sept. ordeal but was canceled due to reasons beyond our control. how long do the kids retain the right to go to an ordeal without being reelected?

I our Lodge the rules are one year from election. We can not use the call out date.

I suggest that you send an email to the membership chair of your local lodge & ask him/her to provide you a copy of the bylaws or guidelines for your lodge.

Here's a quote from the GOA:
Candidate status. After election, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts,
or adults remain candidates until completion of the Ordeal
and Ordeal ceremony. If this period of candidacy exceeds
one year, the candidate’s name will be dropped. To
become candidates again, they must be reelected. The
executive committee of the lodge may extend the one-year
limit between election and induction if a candidate is ill or
there are other unusual circumstances.

Note that it says "one-year limit between election and induction"

Calling out is simply a formality, and is NOT required. The date of the election is the fixed date that should be used.

Wagionvigil,

here is the quote from FAQ page of Detroit Area Council (Migisi Opawgan Lodge 162)

How long do I have after the election to take my ordeal?

You have one year from the date of your election to take your Ordeal. This affords every person at least three opportunities to complete their Ordeal.

If you have info from National that is different from that, please advise where I can find it so that I can relay it to our lodge.

Given the contents of the thread, and the quote from the GOA which says... "The executive committee of the lodge may extend the one-year limit between election and induction if a candidate is ill or there are other unusual circumstances."

Seems to me that if the Sept. ordeal was canceled, due to reasons beyond your control..... it follows that you would have a case to go to the lodge executive committee based on unusual circumstances.
