I truly believe you will have well over 50 hours total BUT to mandate this is not allowed.

If you have 10 scouts help and they each do 5 hours there are your 50 hours

Once Everything is Apperoved You start keeping track of every Minute you are planning,calling,discussing and carring this out. It says give leadership to a Worthy Project. If for instance you are doing trail work and you advertise the weekend in the paper and 100 volunteers show up to help and they are there for 6 hours that is 600 hours. You are not to do this yourself that is NOT showing leadership.

Also where is your SM in this. You should be discussing alot of this with the SM.


Kevin took his idea for his project to his SM and they sat down and looked over it and Kevin talked to him about what it was going to take.

Our SM is really good at being available to our boy working on Eagle projects to come to him when t hey have questions or need to talk.

our former SM is better at taliking to me than our current SM is. im just wondering- what role should/does the SM play in the project?

Our troop has 1 adult that works with scouts working on their Eagle as the troops Eagle Coordinator. Both of my son's were told that their project should be as close to 200 hours or more as possible. Not sure why the EC tells them this or where they heard it from and I will certainly ask them now. I did go back and look at both my sons Eagle books and they both had around 215 hours.

I think my older son topped out at about 60 hours. It would have been more, but the National Park Service did more than they said they would and it was partly done when we arrived that morning.

My younger son spent about 120. He built a bridge that can carry car and small truck/tractor traffic across a creek. This is the only access to land that needs to have some remediation to be parkland and the prior bridge had washed out. He consulted an engineer to see how to make sure his would stay put. He also got someone to donate the mechical fasteners for the bridge deck.

Both of these were worthwhile projects and were not fluff. Needing 200 plus hours is way more than most boys need to do to cover the scope of the requirements.
