Eagle Project Approval

Postby nlbp21 » Thu Mar 02, 2006 2:26 pm

I am a Life Scout and I want to start my Eagle project. I have an idea and I've already talked to the Representative of the organization that will benifit from my project. I know I need to get it approved by my Scoutmaster and Troop Commitee. Can I do this at the same time? In other words can I get my Scoutmaster and my Commitee's approval at a Commitee meeting?

Thanks,

The committee meets only once a month, you see your Scoutmaster weekly.

Talk to your Scoutmaster first.

You have to get SM & benefiting organization's approval of your project concept before you start fleshing it out & creating the details of your Project Plan. Your detailed Project Plan then has to be signed (and dated) by a representative of the benefiting organization, your Scoutmaster, a member of your Committee, & a member of your council/district advancement committee. All before you can actually start to work on the project itself.

The actual signatures could be collected at the same time. I would expect the commitee would want the SM's approval before they took it up as a point of order. You should be talking to all involved to know their expectations before the formal presentation.

The representative of the benefiting organization must sign it before the SM and Committee do. SM and Comm could sign at the same time, but usually you see the SM more and he normally signs first.

Yes, you need to follow the Eagle Scout Handbook. You can get the workbook off of the main site at meritbadge.com or you can try national's website at scouting.org.

The workbook gives you a format which you can follow to make a nice presentation.

First you need to talk to the represenative, and create a write up in which you will be doing your project.

After the rep., signs it you need to take it to your scoutmaster and go over it with him. Once he feels that you will have a good project, he will tell you to go infront of your committee.
