Any activity or trip that our SM wants to do we do without discussion. If the boys or parents suggest omething to the SM it has to go through the PLC. The double standard drives me nuts

the PLC should have a say in it. The Patrol leaders a representing their patrol. If the SPl comes up and says The PLC voted aginst it then the SM should be ok with that. If he isnt somethign is wrong

I can't count the number of times I have suggested something at PLC that the boys voted down. But it is up to them to create the program. That is why it is boy run.

I agree that the PLC should have a say in all activities. But if the SM has an idea we are doing it no matter what. He seems to manipulate the PLC so that ideas that are not his are always voted down.

Then he isn't using the boy run concept of having a troop. And you should talk to your Committee Chair person. There have been times that I had to really talk to the boys about something. Some times they will agree but many times they don't. But the final decission should be the PLC's

It is possible all his ideas are good one!

Please give us an example of some of the ideas the SM presented that weren't good ideas and the PLC approved & some examples of ideas submitted by others the PLC turned down.

The PLC should be voting as they are the representative of the patrol members. Remember the troop is supposed to be boy run.

What I get upset with is a SM who schedules outings and then never goes.
As an ASM I go but sometimes driving 3-4 hours for a weekend does not appeal to me.

I love the saying Boy Run

"boy run, leader guided" HA!
Some troops it is more Leader run, Leader guided, Boys in the background.
Some leaders dont understand that they are not boys, thus they need to back off.

Believe me some of the things I have brought up to our boys at PLC have been great ideal. Simply not ones they chose to do. It should not matter on the quality of the idea from the SM. If the PLC choses not to do it it is their vote and choice. I will admit there have been a couple of times that I have kinda twisted arms and push. Done a lot of explaining about something. About half the time they will finally go with the idea. But I don't demand that they do an activity that I have simply because I think it is a great idea.
We should be guilding but not impossing our wants on them.
