survey

Having been a scout leader for a while we have found that if
we use the troop resource survey it can help us find merit
badge counselors for our boys and we have also put together a
heck of a troop leadership using our resources and just by
asking people do something that they enjoy.

Form

I like the survey form and actually re-typed it to expand on
it a tad. Towards the end of last year, I passed these out to
all the scouts asking them to bring them back the following
week filled out by their parents. After not receiving one
back, I used the next parents meeting to hand them out again.
Most parents said they never saw them the first time. We
(myself and two other concerned adult leaders) explained that
since our troop has suffered the loss of several long term
scout leaders and others to their scouts age, we are in a
transitional stage and would like to have much more adult
participation again. I received one form back since. Oh well,
what can you do.

With the start of another new scout year, I'm going to be
handing these out again and pushing to get them filled out,
even if folks want to sign them and say they don't want to
participate. We have a large group of new scouts with adults
so we think this year will reap more adults and set us on a
better path again.

Without conflicts, and in spite of being a female.

Postby klaassen1234 » Tue Dec 14, 2004 11:06 am

Without conflicts, and in spite of me being a 49-year-old female, I enjoy earning badges as a scout and your guest. If you will please can you let me do this? I am a Special Needs Woman and a Rover Scout through Craig Brown and RSA in Flagstaff, Arizona, I would appreciate it if you gave me this kind of fun and exciting opportunity. Thank you for letting me do this.

Sincerely,
Valerie A. Klaassen :?:

I hate to even say this but Adults do not earn Merit Badges in the BSA. There are cases where youth that are special needs can work on MB's But no female in any BSA organization earns MB's. Ventures can earn awards but not MB's

Yes, Right now the BSA only offers Merit Badges to Boys in the the program. The boys also have to be between the ages of 11-18 to earn. You have the oppurtunity to become a Merit Badge Counselor or even a Scout Troop Leader but as of now females and anyone over 18 cannot earn any merit badges.
