"Drive" Eagle Projects

Postby maricopasem » Wed Apr 19, 2006 10:33 am

Has anybody encountered difficulty getting approval for "drive" type projects (book drive, toy drive, etc.)? My local district has all but said that a boy cannot do that as his project. I'm having a hard time with it, at least in part because BSA still lists a couple of drives as viable examples in the Eagle Packet documentation.

Just curious if anyone else has encountered the same problem.

Many times it depends on what type of drive you are talking about. Our district will not approve a toy drive and I have only seen one book drive approved. The reason they simply don't have to do enough management for those. The only book drive I have seen approved was one where the boy was going to take a lot of the books for much younger kids and tape them. Then donate the books to a shelter. They taped about 75 books.

The only "drive" I've heard that gets frowned upon is a blood drive. While certainly good in cause it just doesn't have the management skills needed. Of recent Eagle projects we've have a clothing drive and a school supplies drive. Both went over quite well.
