In a conversation with some scouters, it came up that colleges weight an eagle earned at a later age more heavily than the ones earned at a younger age. I do not know if this is really the case or varies by college. It might even have to do weighting recent accomplishments more heavily. Are there any college admissions type out that know? Take it for what it is worth.

I would NOT use this information to slow down a scout eager to advance. My feeling is that scouts advance at they own pace and not for me to set an "ideal age" for earning a rank.

Currently I have 1 boy about 14 he is star and just waiting to fullfill 6 months service and a service project .

Ihave 3 first class scouts who most likely will get all the merit badges needed for star at camp.

This would be interesting to find out. I know every college admission board is different, but it would be interesting how the college admissions officers view and weight the Eagle rank as well as do they put more weight in an older scout or younger scout earning Eagle. I hope there are some college admission folks who would like to add their input.

I don't remember the activities check-off box for Eagle on my son's college application having a date associated with it.

That's easy... I'm MC on the Varsity, Venture, and Cub Committees.

The SM is, by definition, a non-voting member of the committee. I'm supposed to be at the meetings, and part of the discussions. I just don't get a vote when it comes to the decisions made by the Troop Committee.

Yes, if it's in different units, that's okay.

In the 2 years I have been involved with our Troop we have had 3 Eagles. Ages were 16, 16, 17.

My son made plan last year when he was First Class that he wanted to complete his while he was 14 and he seems to be on track for that.

Way back when, I completed mine at just under 18. At that time the youngest Eagle that I knew was a 15 year old CIT (Councelor In Training) who worked at Summer Camp with me. That was considered quite an accomplishment at that time.

If the goal of some making Eagle is getting into college, the focus is ALL WRONG.

I hate having to repeat this, but there is NO MINIMUM AGE for Eagle other than being old enough to join a troop. It is NOT up to the SM nor anyone else to say a Scout is too young to make. He makes it whens he's ready and if your only reason for trying to delay him is his age, you are in the wrong. Those of you who are Eagle Scouts should especially know this.

I see scouts making Eagle is more a conesequence of a well run program, not particularly a troop goal in it's self.

Goals of the individual scout is a different matter & generally should be respected.

Eagle ages

Postby scout_momx2 » Sun Jul 02, 2006 11:07 pm

Our troop is 40+ years old; we now have 102 Eagles with another pending. In the 3 years we've been with the troop, 1 was 15, 2 were 16, 3 were 17, and 5 were 17.9999....
