bolo's on uniforms

our troop has worn bolos ( sp.) for years, and years, and years. we always have just cinched them up to our collars, so they are tight. at a council dinner, an adult venturer came up and told me and the then SPL that our bolos should be loose enough, so that if we picked up our bolos off or chests, and pulled them straight up, they should reach our noses.

is he right, or did he just make and idiot of me??

I think that is at the troops discretion how they are to be worn. Now there may be a correct way they have been worn with military uniforms. Kind of like when troops don’t shape their berets.

well, we arent into the whole beret thing ( thank god ). so, i guess its up to us to decide then.

I believe that it is an old practice when slide and neckerchief is concerned. The height of the slide on the neckerchief should be appropriate such that when you lift up the neckerchief the slide should be around your lip or nose area. I don't think this is widely practiced anymore and I don't think it ever applied with bolo ties.

I've seen some literature about this, but don't remember wear exactly. This is also practiced by some troops in the Philippines and I believe it is influence left by BSA when the islands were under US control.

But I do agree that it is totally up to your troop what you standard is.
