Its ALmost Time!

Postby wagionvigil » Mon Jun 05, 2006 1:21 pm

Well summer camp is almost here. ALl the troops and Scouts are busy preparing their equipment to go. But are the SCouts really prepared? Have they read all the Merit Badge Pampflets for all the Merit Badges they plan on taking at camp? Our motto is "Be Prepared" and by not reading and preparing for these Merit Badges we are not living up to our motto. It is important to have some working knowledge of each merit badege before Attempting them. SO you still have time. Get the books a dread them. NOW!!!

Camp is the last week of June. Saturday we are spending all day redoing the trailer and getting all the equipment ready to go. Since we are doing something new this summer and trying to use the Patrol Method better, we are starting almost from scratch Saturday as we piece stuff together. I've spent the last 3 weeks working on equipment lists. We should be good to go!

We've got 25 going this year!

We leave for camp on Father's Day, June 18th.

Seven Ranges Scout Reservation -- Buckeye Council BSA
(Kensington, OH)

My son's first trip and my first trip as an adult/leader.
(The troop that I grew up in has also always left for camp on Father's Day.)

Safe camping wishes to all.

:D

Our first week of Camp is June 25 at an out of council camp. Second week is July 16 at our council camp.

I gave the merit badge matrix out back in March, and choose what badges they want to work on. Taking next Troop meeting to go over prerequisite requirements to make sure they are ready to go.

Best Regards,

Camp Fiesta Island, Mission Bay, San Diego 23-29 July.

Camp Fiesta Island is not exactly camping, the food is catered and the campsite is across the from Sea World San Diego. But Arizona isn't noted for its beach front property so it is a great chance to boat, snorkle, surf, ....

Foot lockers are packed, tents laid out, cots and chairs ready to go.
We leave the 18th for Slippery Falls Scout Ranch in Oklahoma. Tonight the troop will clean out and repack the trailer. We will leave about 7:30 Sunday morning. Really looking forward to it. From what I have heard from everyone that has been there it is a really great run camp. Will let everyone know when I get back.

we went over pre-requisites last scout meeting with the scouts. this tuesday we're going over packing lists. since the camp we go to provides everthing ( tents, no patrol cooking, splitting mauls, axes, ect.) we dont need to gather much. hopefully, if we get the title tranferred, we will be able to use our trailer for the first time.

we leave next sunday ( JUne 25th) for a week at Camp Hank Forker in Custaloga Town Scout Reservation. it usually is a good time ( minus the food :D ).

happpy camping to all.

Back from jrotc camp. It was a lot like scout camp. It was held at a scout camp. We did cope and all that. Luckily the cat 1 hurricane was just north of our site otherwise i would have had to spend some time holding that canvas tent down.

Camp has changed in 20 years. You will have a great time. Try not to compare things too much.

If it is like our Council camp which I returned to after .... well, several years last summer, some things change and some don't. I instantly recognized much of it to be the same as it was ....way back when as I was leaving after 7 weeks on staff. Likewise, some of the activities were the same.

There were some physical additions and changes and, more significantly, some procedural changes. But just as Scouts have changed (evolved?) over the years, so had some things at camp.

Some of the changes I like and some I don't. Probably will be same with you.

In any case, the car is packed and we are off to camp in the morning. I'm planning to enjoy it. Hope you do the same!!
