New pamphlets for Archaeology, Art, Athletics, & Aviatio

Postby PaulSWolf » Fri Jul 07, 2006 11:37 pm

I picked up copies of new Merit Badge pamphlets yesterday for Archaeology, Art, Athletics, & Aviation, plus 2 others.

All of them had revised requirements, in addition to the new information in the pamphlets.

The requirements for Athletics MB, which was the oldest unchanged merit badge pamphlet in the entire series, with the oldest requirements, were completely replaced. Gone is the table of qualification standards for various events by weight, which was quite obsolete.

I've posted the changes and revised requirements to the USSSP. The summary is at: http://usscouts.org/advance/boyscout/advchanges06a.html

These changes will actually become official next January, but Scouts should be able to use them (or the old ones) if they start on the badges from now until next January. Scouts starting a badge after next January will be required to use the new requirements.

When I get revised worksheets for any of these badges, I'll add them to the USSSP site. In the meantime, the old worksheets are still available for those using the old requirements. And the new requirements in most cases (except Athletics) are close to the old ones, so the old worksheets may still be useful, even if a Scout is working in the newer requirements.
