Philmont National Training Center

Postby Billiken » Wed Aug 10, 2005 9:23 am

I was invited this year to attend the National Training Center at Philmont.
Because of job commitments, I could not attend.

I'm thinking of taking the family next year and would welcome any comments, advice, and/or opinions.

THANKS. :D

Billiken,
I agree. Go and take the whole family. There's something for everyone. I went for the United Methodist Scouters Workshop and loved it. I was invited back for Roundtable Commissioner training but was not able to go. Hope to go back soon. Plenty of info on the web.

I'm hopin' to make my first Philmont visit next summer, for the International Conference. My Council Exec however, just announced in the newsletter, he's relocating. So, I'll have to work on him before he leaves. Last time (2 yrs ago), it didn't work out right.

I 1991 My wife and I both did Training at Philmont. My son was a First Class Scout at that time (Now 26 and Still in scouting) my daughter was 8 and is a Crew Adv. now. It was a fantastic Training and Vacation Experience. WE drove out and back and enjoyed things along the way. I am retiring soon and plann on doing it again.

Also have some courses that build on the Council Youth Leader Training. I believe it is called the National Youth Leader Experience or somthing to that effect.

We're a week from our FIRST trip ever, woo-hoo! We'll be in two of the Conferences. So anyone with useful input for a Conference goer, just write anytime (soon, haha).

imjorman040991, PTC offers training for youth that is not by invitation. The course is NAYLE (National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience). To be able to attend however, you have to have gone through JLTC or NYLT first. The course is held at Rocky Mtn. Scout Camp about 2 miles from base camp in between Urocka Mesa and the Tooth of Time. Go to www.nayle.org for more info and an application. I went this summer and had a blast. Drop me a message of email if you want more info than what the website tells you. I also have a promotional powerpoint presentation that I use at my council's NYLT if your interested in hearing more. Hope you go. I hope to staff there next summer and maybe I'll see you there...
