Congratulations. I have set on mnay boards and I like to ask a couple questions.
Which Non Required Merit Badge did you learn the most from? And Why?

If this Board decides you are deserving of Eagle, what do you intend to give back to scouting?

I like to ask Which badge did you learn the most from and which one did you enjoy doing the most? Part of the time they are the same badge.

I also like asking how do you think Scout will help you in your future. And whatdo you plan on giving back to Scouting.

Also be prepared to talk about your service project. What went right, wrong, and how you showed leadership. Best wishes.

Most Boards expect to see alot of leadership both on your project and in your troop.

It really depends on the people on your board. I was asked a lot of technical, detail question (How many astronauts were Eagle Scouts, what do the two stars on the First Class badge mean, recite and explain the Outdoor Code, etc). My friend, who was also up for review that night, was asked board, thoughtful questions (How do you feel the program could be changed to be of better service to others, describe what went on during your favorite campout, explain your least favorite merit badge, etc).

I'd suggest talking to some other recent Eagle Scouts in your area and see how they describe your board members. Honestly though, after all you've gone through, the Board of Review should be the easiest part.

Whatever the questions I am sure you will do fine . Think before giving your answers. Your scouting life has prepared you and so have your parents.

In addition to what was suggested here...

As Scoutmaster, I am not on the board of reviews...But, for Eagle, our boards do some review of scouting knowlege and skills. They don't want an Eagle Scout that can't tie a few knots, or that doesn't know first aid, or that doesn't know the oath, law, slogan, motto, etc.

Ok, I have to ask: Summertop, you know of Eagle Boards of Review that have as a requirement of approval the ability to tie knots?

No, not a "Requirement", but it is reviewed. They ask the scout to tie certain knots. But, they have not denied Eagle because of it.

I did have a scout denied "Life" because he couldn't tie certain knots. I was very distrought. I called the committee chair to face up to that one. I was much more diplomatic than I felt like being. I did explain it was the Boy Scouts of America, not the Boy Scouts of John. I further explained that he did not have the right to add requirements to the ranks.

I then explained that as Scoutmaster I decided the scout had fulfilled the requirements. The Board ofd Review is simple a Review to make sure I (as scoutmaster) did not miss something. The Board of Review is NOT supposed to be a test, as per the scout committee handbook.

Since then, my committee chair has been like a different man. I am glad I didn't get too confrontational with him. We are now good friends and we work well together.

Note: I did not use the Committee chair's real name.

Scouts who have problems on EBORs fall into two catagories.

1. Products of Merit Badge Mills.

2. Got nervous.

The best way to reduce being nervous is to ask some adults to set up a mock EBOR. Review Communications MB.

Also - Wear your complete Scout Uniform.

Or if unable to wear the complete uniform, wear clothing appropriate for the occassion.

My two cents.
