Philmont is a'comin!

After two years of planning, we will be flying to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico on Sunday! Tonight is our last Philmont meeting. We will be doing trek 17 which is rugged (class II terrane), 70 miles long, including blacksmithing, archealogy, seeing the only known T-Rex track (figures the BSA would have it),mining, climbing the 12,441 foot high mountain called Blady, and many other things....so excited!

Change of plans, I better get some sleep, I gotta get up a 3:00 AM and leave home for the airport at 4:00. We are now taking trek 12 (we got to change because we picked up four boys from New York because there SM got sick), turns out 17 was 61 miles long but our new trek is classified Class III terrane and has a lot more program stuff, the only downfall is that we don't get to climb the 12,441 ft. Mt. Badly, instead we got 9,000 ft. Tooth of Time.

I don’t know about any one else here but for me less of a climbs a good thing. I know im good for 23 miles in a day by beach, but some of those steeper mountain trails can be killer.

Though I know the feeling of being able to look down from a peek and see the now tiny dam and lake where you started the hike through the clouds bellow you. Maybe its because im from Florida, where the tallest mountain is made of trash, but, its amazing.

No mater which trek you do you will remember it for the rest of your life.

Just got in last night from our Conferences. Gee, I hated to leave Philmont. I saw lots of woldlife, had a chance to mingle (in our class) with the British Chief Scout (SIX BEADER!). And I went to see "T-Rex"!!
