1st Class 'cooking' requirements

Cool, nice tio see troops getting out and about. My parents won't let me go on the Sept. campout because I want to go to the OA Fall Fallowship instead. (my parents explained that I've been away to much this summer [play practice,summer camp,Philmont, fishing campout]).

We finally had a leader/parent/Tr Comm meeting (same 3 folks) to pound out the big stuff. I asked when SM wanted to do a BOR and COH for my son. No one else went to camp, no one else has work toward rank. We picked a date.

I then asked if we wanted to say BOR is always the 1st Monday of the month and then realized there won't be need for a BOR until Spring because no one else has the cooking requirement for 1st Class and I said so out loud.

SM said, "Yes they do, they did it at the campout at 'B's' place." I said "no, that was 2nd class (cook your own food)" SM said "They went to the store, remember." "Yes, I do, did they need that for 2nd class?"

SM said "I don't know what they did, I wasn't there." I said, "yes you do, you know that B won't let them do anything, you saw that in Erie."

SM said "Well, we planned for them to do it at the spring camp out." "Did they have a patrol cook?" "Well, C cooked pancakes. I don't know who cooked the bacon." (ASM, my DH, said - "I did") I asked about the rest of the meals and they made hot dogs and packet dinners and stayed in the tent.

I said "Then they haven't served as their patrols cook and they need to do it for first class"

And SM said "They were supposed to do that at the campout at B's place"

Now, at this point, if we had 3 days and 3 boys prepared the meals I'm not going to quibble about the menu. I should, but I won't.

But, if you ask those boys what they learned by serving as patrol cook they will give you that blank look that says 'when did I do that.'

And, if the SM signs it, it was done.

Do you see the frustration on my face???? Although, I don't know if the SM will sign the book. My Sweetie was there, so was the other ASM and B is an over involved Mom (like me, but without training or a sense of what kids can do)

And, B's place was her family's 'old homestead' There is an outhouse and a farmhouse that is still safe so they have a place in case of terrible weather and a porch but the kids slept outside in their tents.


And, since none of it takes away what my son learned, it shouldn't matter to me.

I wanted to share so you'd chuckle a bit.

Sheesh! I sure am glad the SM knows what's going on - not !

I do feel for the SM. I don't want his job and don't envy him his situation.

He and I DO NOT communicate well.

Talked to Poppa, he said BigBee's books was signed under the 2nd class requirements for the date of the campout at B's place.

We just need to plan another campout for the boys. Just to get it done, and if only 4-6 boys show, they can still cook for each other to get it done.

As long as this is where the fellows want to be, I have their back.
